In The Singularity is Near, inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil argues that the rate of technological progress, which is exponential, will reach a critical point about 2045 when its impact will be “so deep, that human life will be irreversibly transformed.” Before then, he predicts, human beings will have uploaded themselves to vastly more intelligent and robust machines.
